EP-Dev Forums News Updated

EP-Dev Forum News has been updated to version 2.21. This is primarily a maintenance release that fixes several bugs and improves several features.

The new features include:
- Added support for Invision Power Board (IPB ) 2.1.x (the 2.0.x module broke the smilies of 2.1.x).
- The script can now use the cache on file when the data source is down. This will allow websites to continue operating even if, for example, MySQL is offline.

You can find the new version in the EP-Dev Forum-News Downloads Section.

EP-Dev Whois 2.0 Released!

The latest version of the EP-Dev Whois script has finally been released, version 2.0. The new version is a complete code rewrite that fixes many bugs and incorporates many new features, including an administration panel:

All of the code is new . The entire script has been rewritten. Most importantly the script now has a control panel that features easy editing of nearly all aspects of the script without the need of any database! The control panel now features easy addition of nameservers and price settings, as well as easy editing of existing nameserver settings and templates. Each nameserver now has an array of individual settings such as individual timeouts. The administration panel also includes the ability to quickly check nameserver validity, allowing one to quickly pinpoint incorrect nameserver settings (such as bad keywords).

The general search of the whois script has been updated to scrictly enforce general domain rules (such as length and format). It also has smart domain recognition that allows it to interpret somedomain.com.com as somedomain.com while still recognizing multiple dot TLDs, like somedomain.co.uk and subdomain tlds, such as somedomain.otherdomain.com as otherdomain.com. In fact, with the smart domain recognition, the tld selection could be left out altogether. Still, the search has also been updated to include the option of checkboxes instead of a dropdown box for multiple tld searching. It also has user session logging, so that queries can be temporarily logged and displayed on the following page in the search bar.

There are many other features, but I believe that those are perhaps the most evident.

EP-Dev Forum News 2.1

A new version of the forum news script has been released. This will likely be the last update for a bit (assuming no major bugs are found).

This update fixes a few bugs. Most importantly, it adds true caching support to the script. Now the script can save on numerous database queries and wasted processing time by caching the output. The cache time can be configured (and turned off if one desires) from the control panel.

Additionally, the new version adds an RSS example file, illustrating how the script can output in RSS format.

I recommend everyone update to the new version ASAP in order to get the full benefits of the caching ability as it will speed up your page dramatically.

You can get the script from the EP-Dev Forum News downloads section.

Here is the short log:
ADDED FEATURE: Added true caching support. Cache time can be set form within admin panel. (cache time in minutes)
FIXED BUG: Fixed a major bug that could load incorrect values if admin panel not used. (wrong checks on ids & forums)
ADDED FEATURE: Added example file of RSS code and template code (template 3).
FIXED BUG: Added missing date code link on the admin panel templates page.
FIXED BUG: Fixed a bug that caused post number error to be displayed when post number not set.
